It’s not easy to become a Spanish citizen – first, you have to take two exams, one to test your familiarity with Spanish life and culture, and a second to assess your command of the Spanish language. Then there’s the usual paper trail, and it all costs somewhere in the region of €700.
However, since June, when the UK voted to leave the EU, applications have soared from 70 in the first half of 2016 to 423 since the June referendum.
